The Object

John Pomp blows glass. He also pours plaster. This small vessel belongs to the plaster side of his practice — a catchall, a bowl, a thing to look at. Each one is hand-cast and hand-finished in his Philadelphia studio. No two are identical. The surface carries the memory of the making: subtle ridges from the mold, tiny air bubbles suspended in the material, a soft chalky whiteness that drinks the light rather than reflecting it.

It's about five inches across, two inches deep. Weighs almost nothing — plaster is lighter than it looks. Use it on a nightstand for a ring and a watch. On a desk for paperclips that suddenly feel important. Or just place it on a shelf and let it be.

What Makes It De Sousa Hughes

John Pomp is one of the 50+ lines we represent in our showroom. His work sits alongside Alexander Lamont, Liaigre, Troscan — master makers all. This vessel is the most accessible entry point into that world. A piece of the showroom you can take home without a design consultation or a freight delivery.

Care

Dust with a dry cloth. Plaster is porous — it will develop a patina over time. That's the point.
